Anthony and David's Story

 David and Anthony almost missed each other that night. David had promised his friends he would go out dancing, but the a night on the couch was more tempting. Only a last-minute, “why the hell not,” led to him locking eyes with a smiling angel on the dancefloor. 

Anthony had intended to go out with his friends that evening. However, winding up at the same club as David had been a spur-of-the-moment decision. He welcomed this handsome stranger’s advance on the thumping dancefloor.  He did not know that David had seen him around town and admired his cuteness. 

David had a funny feeling in his stomach, like butterflies doing barrel rolls. He had wanted to approach this cutie before, but never had the chance. They both moved in time with the music and the rest of the dancefloor. Neither of them registered the song that spurred their movement, they had become lost in each other's eyes. A short-lived moment that has lived on in their memories ever since. 

David had to leave early that night to walk a drunk friend home. Before doing so,  he asked for Anthony’s Instagram details and promised to message the next day. Anthony could hardly believe his luck when David followed through on that promise. They went on a date a week later in a cosy wine bar. Anthony was so nervous; he drank half a bottle before leaving the house. David would not discover that fact until much later, when joking with friends that Anthony seemed to get tipsy easily. 

They talked and drank wine for as long as they could; they even stole a few cheeky kisses. It was the night before one of the infamous Melbourne lockdowns, and David had to get home before midnight. That did not stop them from forming an isolation bubble. They both lived alone and wanted to continue getting to know each other. 

In the weeks and months that followed, Anthony and David explored their newfound romance through many “lockdown dates.” David would prepare fancy food paired with fine wine. Anthony would put together playlists perfect for dancing around the living room. For a while, it almost seemed like they did not need an open world for their connection to thrive. 

The lockdowns ended, and they were thrust into reality. Anthony and David both returned to work, but they still spent every spare possible second together. Home dates were swapped for real ones. David continued to impress Anthony with his knowledge of Melbourne’s best restaurants. Anthony never stopped making David laugh, no matter where they went. Everything felt right as they met each other’s friends, all of whom agreed, no matter which one they referred to, “we like him a lot.” 

Eventually, David brought home him his fur baby, Pike. Anthony felt an initial fear that David might not have time for their newly formed relationship anymore. Nothing could have been further from the truth as David agreed it was time to “make it official.” From that point onwards, it was Anthony, David, and Pike against the world. 

It has been over four years since that declaration of commitment. Anthony and David have travelled the world, built a life, and raised young Pike together. They have shared their love of the Eurovision Song Contest by attending the event live in 2023. David has adopted Anthony’s love for the Essendon Bombers, riding the highs and lows of every season. Anthony has supported and encouraged David to pursue his creative hobbies in writing and podcasting. They even held each other tight for months on end when David’s beautiful sister, Erin, was taken from this world far too young. 

Their lives have become intermixed. They share so much in common but have many different passions. Their different strengths and weaknesses complement each other perfectly. David is cool and level-headed, able to make quick decisions in a crisis. Anthony is organised and motivated, able to keep the big picture in sight. Everyone used to know them as either Anthony or David. Now, they are Anthony and David, forever. 

Now that David has proposed, their story moves on to the next chapter. They are saving to buy their first home, whilst making plans to see more of the planet. Therefore, this is only the beginning for Anthony and David. They are so pleased to share the day they make their love, commitment, and union official in the eyes of the law.
